Description

in this lesson, the focus will be on 'to be going to' which is uesd to refer to future plans. Ss will practice the meaning, form and pronunciation of this construction. there will be controlled activities as well as freer productive ones.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice for using 'to be going to' in the context of weekend plans

Subsidiary Aims

  • to practice speaking about future plans

Procedure

lead-in (4-6 minutes) • to provide the Ss with a context so they can have an image of what the focus of the lesson will be

1- ask Ss whether they had a nice weekend 2- what did they do? ask some 3- ask "what about next weekend?" "what are you going to do next weekend?" 4- answer myself: i am going to watch a movie, and i am going to visit a friend, and, i am going to buy some new clothes. 5- now, what are YOU going to do next weekend? 6- draw a timeline; elicit past, present and future on the line

introduction of form (3-5 minutes) • to elicit/introduce the grammatical form for 'to be going to'

1- write 'i'm going to watch a movie next week' on WB. 2- elicit the formula; underline 'I', write subject under it, what about 'he/she/it'? + is; underline 'am', 'is/are'; write 'going to, underline 'watch', write 'verb' under it. Drill 3- say ' now negative': subject + am/is/are +not +going to +verb 4- how do we make questions: write the example: are you going to watch a movie next weekend? Drill 5- is she/he going to watch a movie tonight?

Pronunciation (1-2 minutes) • To practice the pronunciation of weak 'to' in going to

model and drill

controlled practice on form (2-3 minutes) • To provide controlled practice on grammatical form

1. chest the HO 2. show them how to fill in the blanks, give an example 3. check with partners

practice on question form (4-6 minutes) • To provide practice with question form of to be going to

1. chest HO on questions 2. tell Ss to ask the questions to their partners and write their answers 3. model the answer to first question

Practice WH questions (4-6 minutes) • to provide practice with WH questions including to be going to

1. chest HO on WH questions 2. tell Ss to first have a look at the questions 3. ask Ss to stand-up, mingle and ask each other the questions

Form questions (4-6 minutes) • Further freer practice on making questions

1. chest HO 2. show them where to fill 3. check in pairs 4- WC FB

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • to provide Ss with a less controlled paractice with the form to be going to

1. have 2-3 groups 2- chest the HO on questions 3. tell them to put the words in right order in their groups 4. do first one as an example 5. fearly finishers come to WB and write the accurate sentence or say it

find someone WHO (3-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity for further practice on their newly acquired labguage

1. chest the HO on the statements 2. tell Ss u'll give them the HO and they stand up, mingle and find a friend who is going to do what is mentioned in the statement, write his or her name in front of the sentence 3. meanwhile write the sentences on WB, ask Ss to write the names on WB
