Description

In this lesson, students will be aware of the meaning of the frequency adverbs and how to use them in sentences. They will practise asking and answering using the frequency adverbs.

Main Aims

  • Grammar: To provide clarification and practice of adverbs of frequency in the context of habitual actions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking and listening: To provide fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (6 minutes) • To set lesson contex and engage students

Teacher post pictures of someone drinking coffee on the board and ask them: How often do you drink coffee in the morning? To elicit answers from the students.

Exposure (8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will post row of pictures that reflects a meaning.Teacher writes on the board: How often do you drink coffee in the morning? ask about each row of pictures to elicit the answer and then stick the adverb beside the correct row.

Highlighting (8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In pair work, Students will practise asking each other about some activities. Each student will answer about him self using any adverb, and the other student will write only the adverb next to the activity.

Clarification (5 minutes) • To Clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciationof the target language

Teacher asks Ss where we put the adverb in the sentence written on the board to elicit the answer. In pair work, Each student will write four sentences about his partner from the first handout. Then, some of the students come in front of students and tell about their partners.

Controlled Practice (5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students work in groups, students will be divided into three groups. Each group has two jumbled sentences, and they have to put them in order. After two minutes, they will listen to the answers by DVD.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Teacher presents some sounds, model and drill. Students will listen and repeat, then they give similar sounds.

Free Practice (6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In group work, Students move around the class to find the person who.... E.g. always wakes up early. And write the name of the person beside the activity that matches him or her.

Perfect (2 minutes) • Error Correction

To provide feedback on students' production and use of language.
