Description

In this lesson I will be practicing grammar "past simple and past continuous" in the context of past actions. I will use interesting materials in the various books of intermediate, such as English Result, Grammar in use, Teaching English grammar. The lesson ends with a free practice which is related to the context. I hope the learners will enjoy and learn a lot.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of past simple and past continuouse in the context of past actions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of past actions.

Procedure

warmer (3-4 minutes) • to engage students to review the past simple

I will ask students in a group of 5 or 6 tell your friends "what did you do at the weekend?"

lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To become familiar with grammar and involve students

I will draw a picture on WB and ask them to make a sentence for each picture in order to introduce grammar by funny pictures.

clarifying of grammar (8-10 minutes) • To clarify grammar past simple and past continuous by meaning, form, pronunciation

I will write the sentences of pictures on WB and will clarify the meaning by time line and some CCQs, then I will write the form on WB and will drill the sentences. I will show the intonation by gesture and ask learners to show intonation with their hands. At the end I will give them HO to underline correct words in rules In pairs.

controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide controlled writing practice of grammar

I will give students HO will ask students to underline the correct verbs form(individually)I will monitor and help them. FB: I will give them answer key

semi controlled practice (10-15 minutes) • to give ss a chance to use learned grammar in speaking and see how they fit the grammar in a reading

I will ask ss to read the text then underline and highlight the past simple and continuous individually. ICQ: Are you going to answer in pairs? FB: check in pairs I will give HO and ask ss to speak about pictures and make a sentence for each picture in a group. FB: I will give them answer key

Freer practice (4-5 minutes) • To give students a chans to discuss in a big group about the grammar that they have learned

I will give them HO, in a group of 3 or 4, so they will choose on topic and discuss in a group.
