Main Aims

  • To provide clarification on lexis(homophones) and practicing pronunciation

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice on scanning for specific information in the text


Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will stick some photos of homophones and will try to elicit the words.Then will ask Ss to discuss the similarities between the words.those words have.Ss will be given some sentences with errors in which they should fix the errors with their own knowledge.Then will check in pairs and with WC

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the definition of homophones

T will ask Ss what they think about the exercise they just did and will try to elicit the definition of homophones.Then Ss will be asked to make more examples on their own.Then the T will write some of them on WB

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To make sure that Ss dont confuse homophones with minimal pairs

Ss will be given the worksheet.They should eliminate the odd ones in pairs.Then check with WC

Scanning The words (4-6 minutes) • To practice reading for specific information in the text

Ss should read the text and find the words.In order to make them not to read the whole text and every word,they will have only 1 minute for this.Then they should discuss about what those words mean in the text

Semi controlled practice (3-5 minutes) • To practice the TL

After finding the words,Ss should think of homophones for those words in pairs and at the end check with WC

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To practice the TL and some new vocabulary

Ss will be given handouts in which they should match the word to the picture.This activity will be followed by another handout in which ss should choose the right alternatives for each sentence.T will monitor them if they dont know any word or they have some confusion.Then will check with the WC

Freer Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will be asked to write 3 sentences with homophones.Then in pairs,they will read their sentences for each other and the partner should identify which spelling and meaning the word has.Then in a FB session the T will nominate some Ss to read their sentences and the partner should identify them.
