Description

In this lesson, students will be engaged in lexical development by feeling adjectives vocabulary. The lesson starts with photos and discussion about them. This is followed by receptive skills by reading a story. Finally it ends with a semi controlled group .activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of adjectives in the context of feelings.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed and scan reading practice using a text about a strange story in the context of two brothers

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Pre-teach the new words. angry, bored, happy, hungry, nervous, scared, surprised, tired, worried with pictures and Eliciting Concept checking questions Drilling Writing to the board.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Read a short story to the students (there is the target vocabulary in it) and want them to mime the adjective when they hear it. For example, when I say happy they will mime it.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-The students will work in two groups. -They will read the story and try to put the pictures into correct order.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-The students will work in two groups. -They will read the story and one student from each group will run to the wall which has true false sentences stick on. The first group will try to find the true sentences and the second group will try to find the false sentences. The group which finishes first, is the winner.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-All the students will have a paper which has questions. For example, find someone who gets bored easily? -The students will stand up and mingle. They will ask the questions to each other and take notes. At the end the teacher will ask what they have learnt about their friends.
