Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of clothes words in the context of fashion clothes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of shopping for clothes


Lead-in/Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set the context

Students will be shown pictures of a newsagent's,a greengrocer's,a department store and a supermarket.Students will guess the names.If they cant come up with the names ,the teacher will write them on the board.The words will be drilled.Students will name 3 things that they can buy in these places.The words will be written on the board. The students will name things that they buy everyday in pairs.They will share what they have talked about in the class.

Introduction to vocabulary/pre speaking (3-4 minutes) • To check students knowledge of clothes vocabulary and introduce the new vocabulary

A handout with exercise 1(page 44) will be chested.Students will tick the words they already know individually.They will check their answers in pairs. The words "trousers,jeans,suit,skirt,jumper,jacket and shirt will be drilled". pictures of a cap and trainers will be shown. The words will be added on the board while drilling

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To practice the TL

.Students will do exercise 5.5 on page 132. which is a matching exercise. The answers will be checked in the class. Differences of shirt and T.shirt will be explained.

Pre - speaking (4-5 minutes) • To pre teach the verb WEAR for speaking about clothes preference

The verb WEAR needs pre-teaching.In order to do that an example will be given to students. I am wearing blue jeans.

Language focus 1 (3-4 minutes)

What are you wearing? Students will be asked to talk about what they are wearing in pairs. They will be monitored while speaking on case correction is needed.

Controlled practice (Speaking) (6-7 minutes) • To engage students with TL

Different colors will be shown to students in a picture .Once they come up with the name the word will be added on the board.2 clines will be drawn on the board so that students can see the differences of: I usually wear a suit in the weekend. I sometimes wear boots. I never wear red. Students will write about themselves individually. They will share their answers in groups of four. The differences of IN THE WEEK and AT THE WEEKEND will be explained.

language focus 2 (5-6 minutes) • To talk about singular and plural nouns and engage students further with target language

Some plural words like trousers,shoes,shorts will be written on the board.The students will be asked : Are they singular or plural? Do they mean one thing or two?

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To practice the TL

They will be given the exercise 3 on page 44 handout (It will be chested first). They will check the answers in pair. The hand out will be followed by exercise 5.7 on page 132. handout with exercises of the workbook will be given to the students.Students will find the problems and fix them.The answers will be checked in the class.They will practice some,any , singular and plural nouns. In case there are problems the sentence will be written on the board for clarification.

Freer practice (6-8 minutes) • To produce the target anguage

Students will be given 10000 dollar bills.They will see different brand names on the board. They will be asked to talk about what they would buy and where do they buy them in pairs till they run out of money. They will be asked to talk about their shopping list in the class.

If task/Freer practice (4-6 minutes) • Freer practice

Students will be asked to pick different piece of clothing to wear for going to a party and share it in pairs. The question will be: what will you wear at a formal party?
