Description

In this lesson ss read an extract from The Beach for gist and to get more detailed information. They do another exercise where they have to decide if the sentences given are true or false by reading the text again. The lesson ends with a free practice which is related to the context

Materials

Abc an extract from The Beach

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using the text and matching one of the photos that dscribes it ,scan reading practice using a text about The Beach by completing a true/false questionaire

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students with enough chance to develop their spoken fluency and using vocabulary.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss look at the three photos of beaches and say whether they have ever been to any beaches like these. Then Teacher ask them Which one they would like to visit? Why?

While-Reading #1 (3-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading/ task

Reading for a gist. Ss read the extract from the Beach quickly and decide which photo it describes. PW check then WC FB

While-Reading #2 (10-10 minutes) • To provide scanning reading activity

Ss read True/False statements and look up for the answers in the text. Work in pairs or group of three. Answers on the board. Teacher go through the statement with the class, when checking answers, encourage the ss to correct the false statements (ss tell what is correct).

Controlled practice( complete the descriptions) (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging deduction and inference reading tasks

Ss work on their own. Ss complete two descriptions using the words and expressions in the box. When they have finished check answers in pairs. T ask which description matches which photo from ex1. Answers on the board.

Clarification of the TL (6-6 minutes) • clarify MFP

T goes through the list with the class and make sure that the class understand all the items. Model and drill.

Post-Reading Speaking activity. (5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss work with their partners and talk about places in their city or country that meet the statements from ex4. WC FB
