Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T- will start by asking students -"Did anyone travel anywhere this summer? Why, was it for pleasure for work? Do you like to travel?" FB from students and a whole class discussion.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Chest HO- I want you to take a look at this hand out and there are a few reasons for traveling. Working in pairs, with your partner i want you to discuss if you have travelled for any of these reasons. Take a few minutes to that. FB: WC Now In pairs can you come up with other reasons for traveling. FB: WC

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Chest HO- I want you to skim through this text really quick and find out why did the author go traveling. While the students are reading the T will be writing specific vocabulary on the WB and asking students to come up with the meaning from looking at the text. Split up (verb)- end a relationship/to break-up (ex: I split up with my bf before i came to Turkey) Show up (verb)- informal way of saying arrive ( ex: Im glad everyone showed up to class) Lose your head ( verb) informal/idioms: go mad, go crazy, not able to think clearly. (ex: H.W. is making me lose my head) Emotionally blackmail (noun)- use emotions to persuade someone into doing something by making them guilty ( My ex-boyfriend use to emotionally blackmail me into staying with him) take precedence over- the right to come before someone or something/become more important than ( ex: an ambulance has precedence over cars)

Speaking (10-12 minutes) • To provide students practice of fluency using the context.

Chest HO- By yourself I want you to make a list of different places you've traveled to. T- will give Ss a few mins to come up a list, then in groups at the tables students will discuss where they have traveled. While they are having a discussion in groups, T- will put up a picture of the compass and Turkeys map. And briefly ask if the students can describe certain parts and the locations using geographical prepositioning. We use: to the north of...or...is the north of..Ex: Antakya is to the south of Malatya We use: on the coast... Ex: Kars is on the coast of Armenia We use in the north of.. (ex: Corum is in the northeast of Ankara.

Post-Reading/Listening (7-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Working in pairs I want you to discuss with your partner where, when and why you travelled to these places in your list. FB: Students will share with the class what their partner had shared with them about where when and why they traveled.
