Main Aims

  • To provide practice of Dynamic and Stative meanings in the context of rebels

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in a Semi-controlled setting in the context of rebels

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will give everyone a hand out containing pictures of rebels. I will ask -Should questions. The answers should be No. I will then introduce the word REBEL. who was a rebel when they were younger? Who is still a rebel? Who has never been a rebel? Get in pairs and discuss 3 things that are related to being a rebel. (fighting, cheating, demonstrating) I will write there answers on the board.

Exposure (8-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will then give them a hand out, It contains 10 sentences that have the wrong verbs. I will as them to correct the verb. They will do 1-5 first. I will ask the early finishers to write the correct answer on the board. I will ask them if these are actions or states? I will then do the same with 6-10. Bored, boring is a problem in Turkish translation, I will highlight this

Highlighting (2-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Here I will just clarify Dynamic and Stative meanings. Looking - Dynamic Look - Stative I will now give them another hand out with verbs. They will need to put a tick in the correct column, is the word dynamic or stative or both.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will ask them to write either a dynamic, stative or both sentence depending on where they ticked. one by one I will get them to read out their sentences. The ss will be speaking and I can correct any pronunciation with wc and drilling.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Carrying on from the previous task I will do any further checking if needed.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

They will have a WC task. I will give them the 'find someone who' task. They will go round the class and ask each other questions to find out who. Then they will ask another question to find out extra information. This is a speaking and listening task. They must answer the second question using a dynamic or stative verb. Once finished I will collect FB and ask the students to tell me about their findings.
