Main Aims

  • To practice adjectives to describe qualities using appropriate stress.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To listen to descriptions using the vocabulary presented.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First of all, I am going to show ss a picture of a friend of mine with his wife. Then I would come up with this question: 'Who do you think these people are?' Next, I will ask the ss to tell me what they think my friend, Sajad, is like? The ss will be given a short text about my friend shortly afterwards to read and tell their partner a short summary about Sajad. In this text, ss can see some quite new adjectives used to describe my friend, but they can easily understand the meaning of the words from the text. As the last step of this procedure, I will hand out a piece of paper with some definitions on it so that ss should match the bold words in the text with their definitions. Then we will check the answers and move on to the next stage.

Exposure (12-14 minutes) • To provide ss with an activity to guess and learn meaning of words

In this stage, ss will be shown 6 pictures with a sheet of a paper with 6 short texts on it. Then I will ask ss to read the texts and try to guess which picture matches which text. Shortly after that I will play the listening track and ss should listen and see if they have guessed correctly or not. Now that they know which text matches which picture, they should tell their partner which person is most/least like them? using the adjectives in the text. They are not allowed to use Dictionaries, but if they have difficulty understanding the meaning of the words, they should get help from their peers or make a random educated guess. L1 is not allowed.

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage, I will draw students' attention to the pronunciation of the words. I will make an effort to provide ss with the right model and then have them repeat the words after me either individually or chorally. In addition, I will make sure that ss know the meaning of all words as well as stressed syllables.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, ss should be able to find words from the text and match with their synonyms and antonyms. They are even allowed to use their dictionary if necessary.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage of the plan, ss should be able to give answers to the questions of their friends regarding their ideal partner. then they should be able to find those who are looking for the people with the same qualities

pronunciation (3-4 minutes) • to drill pronunciation

ss listen to the listening and try to repeat and underline the stressed syllables.
