Main Aims

To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about that was then and this is now in the context of friends

Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of friendship

Procedure (7-20 minutes)

Warmer lead in (0-7 minutes) • To prepare the students for the reading task

Show Ss pictures of characters in the book. Ask Ss who are these people? What is there relationship? Ss work in pairs to discuss the questions Monitor and help if Ss need. Whole class feedback

Reading for jist (7-13 minutes)

Set jisk task Write two questions on the board. Skim text and match headings to paragraphs. Monitor students Ss will check answers with a partner (peer check) Ss will provide feedback in WC FB.
