Description

In this lesson the student will practice both past simple and past continuous and their differences.A listening in which 3 people will be interviewed about events in their past will be played.The students will be asked to match the stories with the photos of those 3 people and they will learn how to identify the key information. They will also practice the functions of narrative tenses. The lesson will be followed by grammar exercises of narrative tenses.

Procedure

Warmer (20-25 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will show 3 pictures to the students and tell them that i will play a listening for them. I will ask them to listen carefully and try to focus on what these people say about their past experiences.I will explain that a guy named Andy will answer the question HAVE YOU HAD AN INJURY? I will play the first part of listening 1.2 and ask them to draw an arrow to complete the connection of Andy's story. I will play the rest of the recordings and ask them to do the same. I will stick pictures of the 3 people on the board. I will put them in pairs of two and ask them to note down any other details they can remember from the stories. I will ask them to stand up and write the information under the pictures. I will play the recording for the last time for them to check their notes.

Grammar review (10-12 minutes) • The students need to practice the past simple and the past continuous

I will draw two lines on the board to show that a longer action was interrupted by a shorter one.next to the longer line I will write I WAS WALKING ON THE STREET and next to the shorter one THE CAR HIT ME.I will describe the accident scene while using body language. I will ask the students to talk in pairs about what they were doing on august 17th ,1999 when the earthquake happened. Finally I ask them to tell the class about what they were doing when the earthquake happened.

Grammar practice (10-12 minutes) • evaluating students progress in narrative tenses

I will ask the students to do part one of the grammar on page 15 and then we will check the answers . I will ask the students to do the second part and check the answers in pairs. finally we will check the answers together.
