Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of present continuous, present perfect simple, past simple and 'will' future in the context of leisure and entertainment

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide model sentences through a reading text to guide the students about the target language

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students with a quick lead-in

T asks a question "Have you ever had a car accident? or How can we prevent car accidents?" T elicits the answers. T provides WCFB.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

T introduces the target language in context (reading text). The language will be introduced in the form of a reading. T gives the HO because the text should be clarified first. (pre-teach vocab) The lesson will be contextualized and students will be able to still answer the questions despite being unfamiliar with the target language. This stage is set up like any normal reading task. Ss peer check. T elicits the answers and drills the problematic ones.

Guided Discovery (8-10 minutes) • to elicit meaning through a familiarized context and to clarify meaning of the target language

T sets the task gives clear instructions. T gives marker sentences (Ho2) from the text and the students answer the questions that will help them to discover the meaning and use of the target structure. Ss do this controlled practice task. Ss peer check. T might ask questions while providing feedback.

Guided Discovery (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the function and the form

T sets the task and by the help of the previous practice students try to complete the rules for the four tenses from the text. T gives Ss enough time to think about it. Ss peer check / share answers with their groups (depends on the number of the ss). T gives FB.

Guided Discovery (1-2 minutes) • to focus on conected speech and pronunciation of TL

T drills the marker sentence in order to highlight contraction.

Practice (5-6 minutes) • to practise the function and the form

Ss unfold their papers. T sets the task and gives HO3. Ss complete the sentences by putting the verbs into the correct tense. Ss peer check. T gives WCFB (T might want Ss to justify their answers).

Practice (focusing on future tense- will/won't) (10-12 minutes) • to practise

T gives clear instruction, sets the task. There are 4 exercises about future tense in the handout and it is going to be folded so the whole class do the same task at the same time. T monitors carefully and if anyone has difficulty in doing tasks, T remind them to look at the 2nd handout about will. T helps weak students. T gives FB after each task.

Freer Activity (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the target language

T wants students to make their own sentences by using will. Ss may look at the model sentences in the handouts. Ss are going to ask and answer questions about their future predictions (eg.Tomorrow this time I'll probably be at home)
