Description

In this lesson, students will develop their receptive skills through a reading activity about the different ways of making some extra cash. They will be given some tasks which will help them to practice the sub skills of gist reading and reading for detail. They will also practive some phrasal verbs about money.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Ask sts if they would want to make some extra cash, and how could they do some extra cash. -During the FB if they use some phrasal verbs and vocabulary that you will teach, write them on WB. -Tell them that they will read a text about the different ways of making some extra cash, and set the context

Testing Vocabulary (7-8 minutes) • To test students' knowledge about the phrasal verbs

-Tell them that they will learn some phrasal verbs which are related to the text -Ask them if they know any phrasal verbs about money -Elicit some phrasal verbs and write them on the WB -Get them in pairs and give them instructions (Look at these sentences and try to match them with correct phrasal verbs) for task 1 -Tell them that this is a competition - Get them peer check their answers for FB

Teaching Vocabulary (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with some phrasal verbs which they do not know

-Ask CCQs about the task they did (She has more money to spend on clothes, why?) -After eliciting the phrasal verbs, write them on the WB -Elicit the meanings from WC -Get students in pairs and give them the instructions for exercise 1. (Look at the sentences and underline the wrong words/ phrases.) -Get them to peer check their answers then check it with WC -Drill the phrasal verbs

Pre-Reading (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Elicit the meaning of invigilate and write it on the WB with an example sentence -Give them instructions for Exercise 2. (Match the headings with correct sentences) -Give them 1 minute to look at the exercise in pairs

While-Reading (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-Give them the text and give them 2 minutes to read it -Get the answers for ex. 2

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Get students to write an application letter for one the jobs -Tell them to use at least one of the phrasal verbs which is related to money -Tell them not to write which job they are applying for and just describe themselves , why do they want to work in this job. -In the FB, get all the pairs to read their letters to the other groups and the other groups should guess the job they are applying for -Give an example about this task -Gitve them 3 minutes to do this in pairs
