In this lesson sts will read a text based on six basic emotions and talk about the topic.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about six basic emotions in the context of feelings

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion, in the context of feelings


lead in (3-4 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage sts.

T wants the students to watch the shorrt video and think about the facial expressions of the man . after watching the short video film the students will discuss in pairs and then T will elicit the word emotion and the other feelings.

pre-teach vocabulary (9-10 minutes) • to teach vocabulary which will be useful for the students while doing the reading tasks.

T will give the instruction and give a worksheet to the sts to make them match the words with their definitions. First sts will check their answers in pairs and then as a whole class. T elicits the words and gives the sts sample sentences to make them read aloud and ask CCQs in order to clarify the meanings. Next sts practice the pronunciation and the word stress.

prediction (4-5 minutes) • to prepare the students for the text

T will handout 6 different pictures and wants sts to guess "What emotions are the people feeling? Why?" They will talk about their predictions.

skimming for the gist (4-5 minutes) • to provide sts with the gist.

Sts will discuss about the topic and make predictions. T will handout the text and let them read it quickly and check if they are right. They will match the pictures with the paragraphs. They will find the best title for the text.

while- reading (2-3 minutes) • to make students read for specific information.

Tgives handouts and wants sts to read the text and find the words for the definitions given. sts read the text quickly and find the words.

while- reading (8-9 minutes) • to make students read for details.

T will give the sentences to the students and let them dictate each sentence to the class mates. sts will listen and write the sentences and then find out if they are true or false through reading the text.Then they will find the true sentences for the false ones with thier partners.

FOLLOW UP (5-6 minutes) • to give sts a chance to speak.

Sts will watch a video and then they will talk about it with their partners. Before watching the video T says "Think about the feelings. Which ones can you see in this video.?" Next the sts will discuss about the feelings and the man, then guess what happened in the end of the film.

FOLLOW UP (4-5 minutes) • practising speaking skills.

T will ask the sts to talk about when was the last time they felt these emotions, through giving examples.

ıf the stages finish earlier than expected, the sts will play taboo to practice vocabulary
