Description

In this lesson students will learn context related vocabulary about places, and objects used in daily life; the use of "some/any/a lot of/ this/that/these/those" through guided discovery; do controlled & freer listening and speaking activities by using the words and sturctures taught.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of basic quantifiers in the context of homes.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about objects in the context of homes.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a dialogue in the context of homes.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • Activating schemata through an engaging activity

T shows a picture of her flat. "This is my flat.I have four pictures in my living room. This is my kitchen. I have some eggs and some lemons. I have some glasses and a lot of mugs. But I don't have any chairs in my kitchen. Do you have any glasses in your kitchen?" T gives instructions" Discuss with your partner. What do you have in your flat? You have 2 minutes." T monitors and tries to catch the vocab they use, and if they are using some/any/ a lot of. T ends discussion T gets feedback. No error correction at this point- focusing on fluency. T praises

Teaching vocab-household items (3-4 minutes) • To teach everyday objects we use at home (which are included in the listening track)

T shows the handout and gives instructions "Look at the pictures and match the words with pictures.You have 2 minutes" T monitors T distributes the answer key T drills & writes

Listening (3-5 minutes) • To familiarize the students with the use of quantifiers through listening

T shows the worksheet and gives instructions "Fold your paper. Josie is in her new flat. What does she have? What doesn't she have? Listen and complete the sentences." T distributes the papers and monitors. T gives instructions "Now check your answers with your partners." T gets feedback.

Grammar focus 1- some-any-a- a lot of (10-12 minutes) • To teach the basic use of some quantifiers through guided discovery

T gives instructions and demonstrates. "Now unfold your paper. Look at the board and complete the sentences. Work with your partner." T gives the handouts. T doesn't set time in order for them to figure the rules out. T monitors closely. T ends time when she makes sure the rule is comprehended. T instructs "Check your answers. You have one minute." T gets feedback.

Controlled practice- ex.1, pg33 (4-5 minutes) • To practice the use of quantifiers

T shows the worksheet. T instructs "Work with your partner and complete the sentences with some, any or a. You have 2 minutes." T monitors closely. T ends time. T instructs "Check your answers". T gets feedback.

Controlled practice- Check it (5-6 minutes) • To practice the correct use of the grammar focus

Freer practice activity-What do you have in your dream house? (5-7 minutes) • To let ss practice by doing a freer and fun activity

T draws a house on the board "This is my dream house. I have some flowers in my garden. I have a lot of pillows but I don't have any chairs. I have a lot of bedrooms and a big kitchen." T instructs "Work with your group. I want you to draw your dream house, and talk about what you have in your house." T monitors
