Description

In this lesson, students learn about the usage of future tense with will and going to through guided discovery based on reading a text about vacation trip. The lesson starts with a discussion and some questions about next summer vacation trip. This is followed by reading the text of the lesson where they read and can relate some plans and arrangements for their summer vacations and where they will/are going to spend them. Finally there is a controlled practice through filling gaps activity and free practice via a final group work speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of The future tense with will and going to in the context of summer vacation trips

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide deduction reading practice using a text about the form and the usage of will and going to and the differences between them. in the context of summer vacation trips

Procedure

Lead-in activity (3-5 minutes) • To activate the students' knowledge or experience with the topic and introduce the topic of the lesson.

To ask and discuss with students some various engaging questions about the summer vacation trip and where they like to travel and relate this to their next trips to introduce them to the topic of the lesson

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

read the text of the lesson where they read some verbs in the future tense with will abd going to and can relate to them some plans and arrangements for the future

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

To underline the verbs in the future tense with will and going to , and try to focus on them and their usage highlighting the main differences between them through asking some CCQS to check the students understanding.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Through filling gaps activity or handout, the teacher uses controlled practice to concept check and to investigate the students' learning process.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher begins to clarify the concepts of the target language that are previously highlighted in the text, and uses MPF or MFP to more clarification of the meanings, form and pronunciation of the target language.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The teacher ensures further checking of the students' understanding , and try to pave the way for the freer practice through letting them to have much space to answer and discuss questions and to correct each others.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

It is a free practice introduced by the teacher via a final group work speaking activity. The teacher let the students speak freely with their classmates after dividing them into groups and leave much space for them to contact and communicate expressing their plans and arrangements for the next summer vacation trips. Finally , the teacher gives his feedback to achieve his students' fluency.
