Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about finding assistant in the context of Choose the best candidate

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Choose the best candidate

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Lead in- in order to set the context of the lesson I will project some pictures and ask what the students think about them.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

After the students discuss the pictures I will use them to pre-teach some vocabulary. I will try to elicit the words, ask CCQs, drill the words then write them on the board. Then I will project the first picture (of Jean-Luc Bertrand) and give some information about him.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with gist reading tasks

I will show the text I explain that this is an email which Jean-Luc wrote to Marion O`Neil who is the manager at Horizons Unlimited (an international employment agency). Then I will show them a sheet including questions, and explain that they should (fold the paper) read the text and answer the questions (individually) first. I will give them about 8-9 minutes then I will ask them to compare their answer in groups. then I will hand them answer key.

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Then they will read the text again (scanning) and complete the able about the job. They will work in pairs then they will check their answer in a group. I will hand them the answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

They are going to practice speaking for fluency. I will divide the students into two or three groups. I will stick sheets including candidate information on WB and ask them to read and choose one candidate. The students will work in their groups discussing the strengths and weaknesses of their candidate. They will be given time to think about how they will express their decision. Then each group will present their candidate and the other group(s) will comment on their decision.
