Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn about weather vocabulary through PPP based on a reading passage about the story of the lion and the rabbit. The lesson will start with showing a photo of some animals to choose which animal they would like to be. This is followed by a gist reading task. And then, they will elicit the new vocab in various ways to use them in the practice and the production stage.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to use a set of vocab related to animals in the context of funny story. This will be achieved by introducing meaning, form and pronunciation followed by practice.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the students with the opportunity to practise speaking for fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1- Show some different animals. 2- Ask students “If you were an animal what would you like to be? Why?” 3- T talks about his own wish as part of personalization. 4- Ask them to work in pairs to discuss. 5- Whole class discussion is provided.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1- Tell the students that they’re going to read a text to find out the main idea. 2-Give them the text to skim and choose the correct answer. 3-Accept any suitable answer and praise the students. 4-Show the answer key for feedback.

Clarification (6-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1-Show the slides of the target vocab one by one. 2-Elicit and clarify the meaning of these new words using a suitable way then check understanding using CCQs. 3-Ask students what part of speech those words are and/or synonyms and antonyms. 4-Drill with the ss (chorally and individually) highlighting the main stress.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To assess students’ understanding of meaning, form and pronunciation. -To provide a scaffolding for the freer practice.

1- Ask Ss to work alone for 2 m. to choose the correct answer and type it in the chat box. 2-Ask simple ICQs. 3-Monitor to check their understanding of the form and meaning, and to notice pronunciation (It's ok to correct their errors on the spot here). 4-Ask students to share their ideas. 5-Monitor and provide the answer key.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

1- Ask Ss to work in groups 4 m. to choose which sentence is correct and Why? 2-Ask simple ICQs. 3-Monitor to check their understanding of the form and meaning. Micro-teach if needed. 4-Ask students to share their ideas. 5-Monitor and provide the answer key.

Free Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language for fluency.

1-Demonstrate the following task with a student. 2-Invite the student, and tell him "You are ‘A’ and I’m ‘B’" 3-Tell him to describe an animal to me to guess, I may ask for further information. 4-Divide the students into pairs: ‘A’ and ‘B’. then swap the roles. 5-Ask these ICQs: What is ‘A’ going to do? – Describe the animal. What is ‘B’ doing? – Think of the name. 9-Monitor and collect errors. 10-Feedback on the content and language.
