Seasons
A1 level

Description

In this lesson students will learn what are the 4 seasons of the year. They will also learn to identify them, pronounce them and write them, through activities and a support video.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a conversation
  • To provide process writing practice of a conversation in the context of Seasons

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of conversation in the context of Months of the year

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Present on a cardboard 4 images that represent the 4 seasons of the year (Winter, spring, autumn and summer). Without including texts, just ask the student in which months each event in the images is observed to happen.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Provide students with copies in which images of the seasons of the year and their names are presented. Ask the student to color and write again each station next to it.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Present video to students about the seasons of the year. When students see the station, they will mention what it is called (in support of their copy provided previously).

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

.Provide alphabet soup to students without providing them with the words they are looking for, but rather the images (of each season of the year), in which students will first identify what word each season speaks of and find it in the alphabet soup

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask the students some questions about the subject they have been observing, example: What is the season of the year that is coldest? How do you spell summer correctly? What season of the year is December?
