Description

In this lesson, students learn the names of some animals and associate them with different characteristics. The lesson begings by asking the students for their favorite animals, then five cards will be shown with they will work on memorizing the names of the animals. Once the animals have been identified, we will mention by groups some characteristics of the animals seen previosly. Finally, there will be a practical activity where students will relate the animals with their characteristics.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce students to the topic by telling a story about their pet. Talk with the students about their favorite animals, the pets they have at home and the qualities or characteristics that their pets have.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ask students to mention what they would say to a person if they were asked what a lion is like, share different opinions. Continue working with the description of people or animals.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show the students different cards with illustrations and ask them to mention the name of the animal in case they know it appears on the card.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Repeat the name of the animals on the cards several times to practice pronunciation. Display the cards that contain descriptive words and work on the meaning and pronunciation of each one.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Once the words have been practiced and understood in a group through an activity and participation, the students will place the descriptive cards with the corresponding animal.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Assign students a white sheet. Indicate that they make a drawing of their favorite jungle animal, they should put the name of the animal they drew and add three characteristics.
