Description

In this lesson, the students are going to practice their receptive (reading) skills in the context of traveling. They will also practice their productive (writing) skills by creating their own stories about their travels.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher sticks 6 pictures on the wb, and asks the students discuss in pairs about what they are.

Pre-Reading/Vocabulary (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher then elicits the words from the sts and introduces them to the new vocabulary of the context. The teacher asks the name of the country, and after she elicits the name, Mexico, the teacher seperates the sts into three groups and asks them to discuss what they know about Mexico with their partners.

While-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading task

After she asks a few feedback questions to the sts about Mexico, the teacher introduces the reading passage to the sts and tells them to read it fast and match the pictures randomly posted on the walls with the paragraphs in two minutes. After they finish, the teacher elicits the correct order of the pictures from the sts.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading task

The teacher then tells the students to read the passage again, but this time she gives them handouts and asks them to fill in the blanks by reading the passage in detail. Then the teacher asks the sts to check their answers with the other sts and then she gives them the answer key.

Post-Reading / Writing task (1-2 minutes) • To prepare the students for their writing task

The teacher writes four questions on the board and asks the students a few questions about their own vacations such as when and where it was, or with whom they went there.

Post-Reading / Writing task • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher then asks the sts to write a paragraph about one of their own vacations. She gives them about 5 minutes and when they finish, she tells them to stick their writings on the board. She tells the sts to read each other's writings in a few minutes and when they are done, she asks them to choose the best vacation that they have read.

Error correction • To correct the errors that the sts have done during the writing task.

The teacher writes a few of the mst important errors that she has monitored during the sts' writing task. She elicits the correct versions from the sts, or she corrects them if it is necessary.
