To provide scan and deduction in the context of travel
To provide product writing practice of a essay in the context of travel
Procedure (20-27 minutes)
The teacher sticks 6 pictures on the wb, and asks the students discuss in pairs about what they are.
The teacher then elicits the words from the sts and introduces them to the new vocabulary of the context. The teacher asks the name of the country, and after she elicits the name, Mexico, the teacher seperates the sts into three groups and asks them to discuss what they know about Mexico with their partners.
After she asks a few feedback questions to the sts about Mexico, the teacher introduces the reading passage to the sts and tells them to read it fast and match the pictures randomly posted on the walls with the paragraphs in two minutes. After they finish, the teacher elicits the correct order of the pictures from the sts.
The teacher then tells the students to read the passage again, but this time she gives them handouts and asks them to fill in the blanks by reading the passage in detail. Then the teacher asks the sts to check their answers with the other sts and then she gives them the answer key.
The teacher writes four questions on the board and asks the students a few questions about their own vacations such as when and where it was, or with whom they went there.
The teacher then asks the sts to write a paragraph about one of their own vacations. She gives them about 5 minutes and when they finish, she tells them to stick their writings on the board. She tells the sts to read each other's writings in a few minutes and when they are done, she asks them to choose the best vacation that they have read.
The teacher writes a few of the mst important errors that she has monitored during the sts' writing task. She elicits the correct versions from the sts, or she corrects them if it is necessary.
