Description

In this lesson, students learn about how to write a persuasive essay using its features and correct format. students also practice reading skill by reading and answering reading for detailed questions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts with personalization by talking about a friend's advice that changed her life. T asks ss to talk in pairs about an advice they give or are given that they will never forget.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T chests a matching task and gives clear instructions. Ss answer individually then check their answers in pairs. T gives OCF. T chests a modal for a persuasive essay. T gives instructions that ss should scan the text then answer the following question (detailed questions). Ss answer individually then check their answers in pairs. T gives OCF.

Useful Language (12-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T starts explaining the format and the features of a persuasive essay by eliciting with the help of using few slides on a power point. T uses CCQ. T writes bullet points on the board to be clear for the ss

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T gives the ss a topic to write a complaint letter using the given strategies, features and format. T asks ss to brainstorm first. T asks ss to work in pairs. T gives the suitable time before starting.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher monitors students while writing their essay for the feedback on content and error correction. After content feedback, language feedback and error corrections will be done on board, teacher elicits the correction from the students. Also, teacher writes the good statements on board to praise and encourage the students. The main aim here is to learn from their mistakes and be more confident when they use the target language.
