Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of articles "a, an, the" by using different exercises.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Choose the right articles so they can be able to write and speak correct way.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T writes the words on the board “ dog”, girl, key” and asks Ss if these are nouns or adjectives. Then writes down “blue, nice, beautiful” and them if these are nouns or adjectives.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T writes "a girl" "a dog" and "a key" and then writes “ a blue, a nice, a beautiful” and uses them in a sentence. and explains. T writes "a girl" "a dog" and "a key" then writes “ a blue, a nice, a beautiful” and uses them in a sentence.

Clarification (1-3 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T writes a, an, and the on the board then Ss will repeat the word and T explain to them we say they are articles and they can help us to describe. A, an, the - these are articles that can help us to describe nouns.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T explains that A and An are both indefinite articles but may be used in different depending on the first noun or adjective the article after.

Clarification 2 (5-10 minutes)

After explaining T shows the article "the" and what's the difference between a, an and the.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T writes 2-3 sentences on the board and asks the Ss to answer

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T gives the Ss the hand outs that she prepared and gives them 10 minutes to finish
