The current is Reading lesson intended to develope Ss' reading skills and sub-skills by using a text from keynote student's book.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide reading practice for gist and specific information in the context of "personal growth and happiness"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification on new and challenging vocabulary in the context of "personal growth and happiness"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T Greets Ss and introduces himself. -T asks Ss to work in pairs and wirte on top of a podium the 3 essential things they consider the most important to feel happy and orgnize them from the most important to the least important. -Ss will have 4 minutes to do this task. -OCFB

Pre-teaching (10-12 minutes) • To introduce students to new vocabulary and prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T covers MFP of the followig words: Hierarchy, Appeal to(V), social belonging. MEANING: T will elicit meaning from ss by giving them contextualized examples of language. CCQs: -Example 1. In the middle ages the social hierarchy top rank was that of the king and the lowest rank were the peasants. - Are peasants and the king equal in rank? No - Who was/were the most important rank in the middle ages? The king. - Who was/were the least important rank in the middle ages? the peasants. 2. The attorney's defense appeled to the court for help. - Did the attorney provide help to the court? No - DId the attorney request for help from the court? yes 3. A regular teenager experiences a strong need for social belonging while avoids being rejected by his social circle. - Do teenagers seek validation and connection with other teenagers? yes - What are most teenagers interested in when interacting with others? social belonging, be part of the group. social connection. etc... FORM: - T asks Ss if the introduced words are Nouns, Adjectives or Verbs. NOTE: *Hierarchy is a noun * Appeal to is a verbal expression * Social belonging is a compound noun. PRONUNCIATION: - Drilling :T asks Ss to repeat pronunciation after demonstration. - T asks students ''how many syllables does this word have?". - T asks students which syllable is stressed in each of the words. T will have ss working in groups of 2 or 3 people to match words with images and word pronunciation. activity: 2 minutes.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

1.Have Ss read the text quickly individually and have them select the best title for the article out of 3 options in goole forms. - Motivation and personality traits. - How to organize your life more efficiently - Understading Human needs. (correct answer) 2. OCFB

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

-Ss will read the text and answer true / false questions. 6 min -Ss will compare their answers with their peers in breakout rooms. -OCFB

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Ss will discuss some questions in the context of personal growth and hapiness in breakout rooms. -T monitors to note errors -OCFB

Delayed error correction (2-3 minutes) • To correct mistakes and improve learners' language

T gives feedback on good language T provied correction of some mistakes made during the post -reading activity. T asks if students have questions and adresses them if they do. T thanks ss for their time
