Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice for word building in the context of information

  • To provide clarification of to provide clarification on information verbs such as ask, reply, inquire,investigate,research, and wonder
  • To provide practice of To provide extended speaking fluency as students use information verbs to talk about themselves

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introducing the topic of the lessons to the students by asking them, what type of questions do children ask? let students share in an open classroom and write down the questions that they thought about on the slide. Using G-slides

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Present to the students the text, and ask them to work in groups to read the text and find which information verbs they can find on the slide. Each group would receive a slide to work on. They will work in breakout rooms for 4 min. Check the answers in an open classroom Answer: wonder, inquire, research, investigate, reply, ask.

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: to work on meaning students will work in g-slides matching the situation with the correct verb. students will have 3 min to work on this activity and the answers will be checked in an open classroom. Answers: 1. Research: You are doing a thesis for your master’s degree.2. wonder: When someone tells you something and you are not sure you agree./ 3. Inquire: When you need to find out if there is availability to book a table at a restaurant/ 4. Investigate: When the police is looking for information on a robbery./ 5 Reply: Someone writes you a letter. Form: Students will work individually on a Google form, to choose if the correct answer for each sentence is a verb or a noun. 2 min. In an open class, answers will be checked. Then to verify if students understood teacher will ask them to work on g slides and according to the sentences on the g form decide if they were used as verbs or as a noun. 2 Answers: 1. investigation/ noun. 2. research/ noun. 3. wonder/verb. 4 Reply/verb. 5. Inquire./verb, Pronunciation. Students will work on g-slides and put the verbs on the right column, they will have to figure out how many syllables and where is the stress. 2 min. All the class will check answers and the drill chorally. 3 min Answers: 1.WONder/ 2. reSEARCH/ 3. inQUIRE. 4. rePLY/ 5. inVEStigate.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will be presented with a g-form where they will put the underline letter in the correct order to find words related to questions. students will have 3 minutes to think and work on it. Answers will be check-in open class Answers: 1. research/ 2. inquired/ 3.wonder/ 4. investigate/5.reply/6. asked

Free Practice (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be given 5 minutes to work in break-out rooms so they can complete the sentences on the controlled practice for them to be true or apply to them. The teacher will try to monitor all the groups and find some good uses of the language and some errors students might have. Then wright some examples on g slides
