Description

In this lesson students learn the names of containers and drinks. Lots of real life objects and pictures are used while doing activities about containers and drinks. In groups and in pairs they talk about the new learned words. Then they read few paragraphs about why some drinks were named after some people. The students do activities according to what they read and answer the questions accordingly. The infinitive ''to'' is included in the text. Later on they are taught the meaning and form of the infinitive ''to''.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will put a Picture about drinks on the board and ask them what they see. Then I will tell them my favourite drink and ask what their favourite drink is ?

Pre-teaching vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • to make them familiar with the new words.

The teachers shows 8 drinks to his ss. The teacher divides the class into 4 groups. Then the teacher gives each group 2 words. They have to try to guess their meaning and stick the words on the drinks. Then teacher shows 6 new objects to the class. This time he divides the class into 3. Now they are supposed to do the same with the new words.

Teaching vocabulary. (3-5 minutes) • To intruduce the new words and phrases

T gives the ss a handout. In pairs students are supposed to discuss about the activity and find the correct phrases in the box. To check understanding I will ask questions by using the objects again. Is ''a mug of cola'' right or wrong ?

Free practice (2-3 minutes) • to provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives the students a worksheet. In pairs students have to answer each other's questions.

Pre-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher will give examples using his photo and 2 photos of celebrities. Then he will show the pictures about the people mentioned in the text to prapare the students for the text.

Gist Listening (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening

Students are given worksheets. On the worksheets there are 5 information. They have to find to whom that information belongs to by skimming the text in 1 minute. In pairs they have to try to answer the questions correctly.

Detailed Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide ss with more challenging detailed listening

Students are given a worksheet. The students try to fill in the gaps after reading the text again (in detail.)

Eliciting the Grammar (2-3 minutes) • to make them familiar with the infinitive ''to''

The teacher will give an example from the text where the infinitive ''to'' is used and where it is not used. Teacher will ask the ss about the difference.

Grammar controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To let the students figure out the grammar rule by themselves

Teacher gives the ss another worksheet. They have to fill in the gaps. They have to guess where they have to put ''to'' and where they mustn't.

Grammar clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

On the WB, the teacher explains where, when and why we use the infinitive ''to''

Free Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In pairs students talk about the difference between the Turkish and the British Tea. Then they ask different pairs about their opinion.
