In this lesson the Ss learn explaining a problem, expressing dissatisfaction and responding to a complaint

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about complainings in the context of having problems with telephones and making too many phone calls at work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversations in the context of complaining and responding to a complaint
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of complaining

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the class three pictures and will ask the Ss who the peolpe are and what they're doing. Ss have to make guesses about the picture with having my questions in mind.

Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the TL and make it accessible

I will ask the Ss to listen to the audio and find out who is unhappy and why and make notes. I will let them compare their notes with their partners. Ss will listen to the audio and skim to find out who is unhappy and why. The they compare that with their partner.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading connected with the listening

I will give Ss a sheet with phrases that were in the audio. They have to memorize the listening and have to match by whom the sentence was said. Ss work in groups and have to match the phrases with the persons.

Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

I will let the Ss fill in the gaps while listening again and let them compare with partner. Then I will ask them to match the sentences with the group in exercise 2 p.93 in groupwork. They have to match the complaining phrases with the brief description, i.e. explaining the problem,expressing dissatisfaction etc. Ss listen again, do scan listening and fill in the gaps on their own according to the audio. Then they compare it with partner and decide which sentence belong to which group in exercise 2

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask the Ss to add one more sentence for each group

Writing • To provide the students other forms of the TL

If time the Ss will do exercise 1 and put the words in correct order.
