Description

In this lesson students will improve their pronunciation of words in english whilst listening to a song

Materials

Abc Text A (Wish You the Best lyrics by Lewis Capaldi)
Abc Text B (Alfie by Lilly Allen)
Abc Text C (Helena by My Chemical Romance)
Abc Text D (Time Bomb by Zachary Gordon)
Abc Whiteboard and markers

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a role-play in the context of songs

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide deduction reading practice using a text about situations in the context of songs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will introduce themselves and then ask the Ss to say their name and their favorite song or the song they have recently listened to.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the text and the activity

T will hand out texts to Ss, then T will ask students to gather in groups corresponding to the text they have and explain what these texts are, saying that these are song lyrics.

Highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the language

T will ask Ss to read in their respective groups the texts and give their first impressions and the tone of the song.

Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will ask students to plan a small performance based on a small section of the text. The aim is to get the other teams to guess the name of the song based on what they see.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will present their small preformances and T will ask Ss to think about possible names.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of meaning of the lyrics

In their groups, Ss will have to decide on the 2 best names and then teacher will write them on the board, after each group has said their names, the names of the title will be revealed.
