To present and practice present simple (affirmative/question forms)

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the present simple tense (affirmative/question) in the context of the day-to-day life of an actress

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in speaking fluency and understanding of associated vocabulary items

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Elicit meaning of day-day-life, talking of routine, habits etc. Give example of my own day-today- activities using present simple highlighting verbs; get up, have, leave . Then ask Ss to fill in other verbs on jamboard while using them in a sentence in relation to themselves.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Instruct Ss to predict when the actress -Gets up -Has breakfast -Starts work -Has lunch Ss then read the provided text for gist to compare their predictions.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Pick out 3 sentences to ask CCQs -I live and work in Los Angeles - Does she live there now? -What time do you get up? - Is this asking what time did she get up today? -When do you have lunch? Is this asking when does she have lunch everyday?

Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

M - use the 3 previous sentences to place on a timeline showing present simple. Elicit answers from Ss - The give a task to highlight the verb in 5 sentences: I get up at 4.30 in the morning. You leave home at 5.30. We start work at about 7.00. They have an hour for lunch. She gets home at 9.30. Ask Is the Present Simple the same or different after I, you, we and they?
