Description

In this lesson students learn how to scan the text for relevant information and answer questions based on it. Lesson starts with a guessing game about Tyler's Tweets and scanning for keywords to answer questions. Next, Ss work in groups & fill in the gaps based on relevant tenses. Finally, Ss get familiar with Colloquial and informal writing with the help of phrases picked up from the text.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about Tyler's tweets in the context of Tyler travelling abroad.
  • To provide clarification of Colloquials in the context of Tyler's tweets.
  • To provide practice of Tenses in the context of Fill in the gaps about Tyler.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a Informal Writing.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will play a guessing game about Tyler by showing a picture and prompting Ss to guess the answers.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Introduce Ss to the text and following activities to proceed with. Give examples relevant to the activities to help them work in groups as a part of uncontrolled practice and get grammar and language answers correct.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Conduct scanning, fill in the gaps and guessing activity for grammar and lexis.

Report (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

To discuss and give feedback after they have worked in groups on tenses and colloquial.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Take examples from text and clarify meaning of informal writing in context of sentence structure.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Ask CCQ and indulge them to practice and comprehend colloquial.
