Description

In this lesson ss practice daily routine vocabulary and learn about negative and question forms of the simple present tense through semi controlled and free practice speaking activities. Ss also learn about where and how to use 'too and neither' through a semi controlled speaking acitivity.

Procedure

warmer/ lead-in (5 minutes) • To practice verb and noun collocations of habits and daily routines

Ss work in goups of five. T hands out cards for verb and noun collocations and ask ss to stick them on the w/b. the group who finish first is the winner. T shows a verb and noun collcation on the w/b as an example . T writes ' ....... football' on the w/b and tries to elicit the verb from ss by using gestures. I: Work in groups of five. match the verbs with the nouns.

grammar (5 minutes) • To present the negative forms of the simple present tense

T writes four true sentences about herself/himself on the w/b. I don't get up late I don't watch TV I don't like snakes I don't know German. T makes simple drawings of these sentences and ask concept check quesitons to elicit the meaning. CCQs: Do I get up late? Do I watch TV? Do I like snakes? Do I know German T also underlines the negative auxilaries to take the ss' attention.

pronunciation (3 minutes) • To practice Ss in the contraction of 'do not'

T uses her/his fingers to show the contracted form of 'do not' and do repetition drills for pronunciation

grammar (7 minutes) • To make ss produce sentences in negative forms of the simple present

Ss work on their own. T hands out blank sheets to the each of the Ss and ask them to write four true sentences about themselves using the negative forms. T tells them not to show their sentences to anybody. I: write four true sentences about yourself. do not show them to your friends. During the acitivity T monitors ss and helps the ones having difficulty in writing. T collects the papers and shuffles them. T asks one of the ss to read aloud one of the papers in turn. Ss try to guess whose paper it is. I: who is he/she?

grammar (5 minutes) • To teach ss how to agree or disagree with the people they talk to.

T sticks dialogue strips on the w/b and draw pictures to the meaning. T drills Ss by changing strips and do pronunciation drill by making ss repeat the sentences. CCQs: do you like football? yes do I like football? no? Do you like tennis? yes. Do I like tennis? yes... etc.

speaking (5 minutes) • to practice ss in agreeing and disagreeing with people

T hands out the workseets. Ss first fill in their own column and then each student learns whether his partner agree or disagree with him/her. the task is to find and wirte the common things that he/ she has with his/ her friend. T demos it with one of the ss. Ss work in pairs. T asks ss what they have in common with their friends as FB.

grammar (5 minutes) • to introduce ss yes/no question forms of the Simple present tense

T writes yes/no questions on the w/b using I/you/we/they sbjects. By underlining words, T tries to show the word order. T gives short answers with simple drawings.

speaking (10 minutes) • to practice ss in asking habits and giving short answers

T chooses a well-known celebrity e.g Angelina Jolie , and tells the ss that she is at the airport in Istanbul. ss imagine themeselves as TV interviewers and prepare 5 questions using ' Do you..?' in two groups . Ss work in pairs as a famous star and interviewers. T monitors them and takes notes of their mistakes to give FB at the end of the activity T writes the mistakes on the w/b. and asks ss to correct them.
