Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, Ss will have developed productive skills, as well as reading for gist, speaking, controlled and freer practice in the context of changing technology

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide reading and speaking practice and understand some key vocabulary items

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As a warmer I will still building a good rapport with previous and new learners, asking them how their week was and how they feel, I truly believe that building a good rapport is essential before start teaching. As a lead-in I will start doing a dynamic. Ss will enter to a jamboard. The instruction is to write down the functions of that mobile in the past. Ss will have 2 minutes to finish and then in the main room talk about their answers for about 2 minutes more, At this stage my objective is to active previous knowledge of the main topic of the class.

Presentation through the text (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

To provide context for the target language I will present a picture of the text and set students into BORs with a peer and answer the question "What do you the text will be about?" after 2 minutes Ss will return to the main room and then Ss will tell me their peer's answers and I will write their answers down. Afterwards, as a gist task Ss will have 4 heading and 4 paragraphs and they will be set to find the correct heading for each sentence, for about 2 minutes. Then Ss will go into BORs again for 1 more minute and talk with their peer and check if their assumptions were correct. In the OCFB students will tell me their answers. Clarification (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

M - to cover meaning Ss will see slide number 4, they will have to return individually to slide number 3 to look at the phrases in blue in the text and complete the rules with can and could individually, and then they will tell me their answers. Besides, I will provide CCQs to check understanding. Answers: 1. Can 2. Could F - to cover form Ss wiil see slide number 5 and individually they will have to return to slide number 3 to look at the phrases in pink and find out the negative of can and could. Then Ss will tell their answers. Besides, I will provide CCQs to check understanding. Answers: 1. Can't 2. Couldn't Afterwards, to secure the use Ss will fill in the gaps questions and shot answers with can, can’t, could or couldn’t, individually. Answers: 1.Can/Can't 2.Could/Could/Couldn't

Controlled Practice (4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

During the Controlled Practice Ss will read about mobile phones and fill in the gaps with can, can't, could and couldn't using a form. After 2 minutes Ss will submite their answers and compare in the OPCFB for 2 more minutes. ANSWERS: 1. COULD 2. COULD/COULDN'T 3. CAN/CAN'T

Free Practice (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this final stage Ss will have to work out what they'd learnt during the class. Ss will have to think about 3 things they couldn't do in the past and 3 things they can do know. At this stage, they will be able to produce, taking into account that they will know the meaning, form and correct pronunciation. After 3 minutes working out alone their answers, Ss will go int BORs for 2 more minute to discuss their answers with their peer and develop their speaking skills. Then, in the OPFB Ss will tell me their partners answers and discuss about it. Afterwards, at this stage is appropriate to give DEC and clarify some doubths.
