Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about movie remakes in the context of past events

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of movie remakes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will write 'remakes' on the board and give an example of one. Then I will ask students to talk in pairs about movie of TV remakes that they know of and then I will write some of them on the board and ask them questions about them like when was the original and remake? what actors were in it? and if they like it and why.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Then I will get them to think about dates and what was in the past so they understand the dates in the article. I will write some dates that are important to me and have them guess why they are important to me through eliciting. Then I will tell them to get into pairs and think of 3-4 important dates in there own life and take turns guessing each others important dates. 1987-born 2005-graduated high school 2013- niece was born 2014- CELTA

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will have the students read the article for the first time. I will give them a short amount of time to read so they have to scan the details and match the information to the picture. This stage should go fairly quickly as they are reading for gist. students will check their answers in pairs

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The second time i ask the students to read the task I will give them more time and have them answer more specific questions from the article. I will check for understanding with icqs and then have them read alone but check their answers in pairs. We will go over the questions and address any difficult pronunciations of vocabulary.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • to provide students a chance to practice with dates and chronological ordering

After reading I will hand out strips of paper from the text with facts and dates on them. I will have them work in pairs and put the strips in chronological order. After they are done I will have students walk around the room and check each others answers.

Speaking (5-7 minutes) • to allow students a chance to talk about the movies

First student work in pairs and do the 'What's the Film?" HO. They will take turns asking each other questions about the film and then guess what it is.Students will work in pairs and first tell each other their favorite movie remakes. Then I will have them discuss what movies they would remake if they had a chance. Also I will ask them what actors they would have play the roles in their remake.
