Reading about dangerous animals
A2 level

Description

In this lesson we are going to read about some dangerous animals and teach new words ( about dangerous animals, their habitat and how they hurt humen ) through the reading.

Materials

Abc American English File 2 Student Book

Main Aims

  • To provide inference and gist reading practice using a text about dangerous animals

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of dangerous animals in the context of dangerous animals and their habitat and how they hurt human beings.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

At first I will show them some pictures of some dangerous animals such as sharks, snakes, lions, bears, crocodiles and so on. Then I am going to ask them about their favorite dangerous animals here and why they scared of them.

Pre-Reading/Listening (1-2 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Here in this stage I am going to teach them the essential words that are used in the reading. First I will show them the pics and point to each of them and ask them what are their names and so on. If they say a british word I will tell them and after all their answers I will tell the right and new vocab.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will use skimming here. I will give them 2 min and ask to read the white box on the page 70 quickly and then ask them what do they think this reading is about and why.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Deep Reading ! Yes, here I will use deep reading. I will give them 10 to 15 min to read the text carefully and detailed; then they are going to answer some questions on the SB ( controlled practice ) and check them in pairs ( with the student next to them ) and I will monitor and help them if it was needed of course. Then they are going to tell me their answers and why and at the end i am going to tell the right answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (2-3 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

At the end I will ask them what do they think about the reading and have some semi controlled practice and what do they learn that it is new for them.
