Description

In this lesson, students learn about how to develop their reading skill through a reading text about laughter. The lesson starts with discussion questions about laughter to build up their interest in the topic. This is followed by reading for ( prediction, gist, specific, questions, details). Finally, I will give them a follow-up task(speaking) to practice the given knowledge from the context.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Laughter in the context of Laughter is the best medicine

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of importance of laughter in our lives.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i will start my lesson with a video (funniest laugh ever) to students attention and create an atmosphere related to the topic. Then i will ask students if they have or know someone with a strange laughter. After that, i will divide them into groups of three to discuss this question ( Is laughter is important to you? why/ why not? Following that a content feedback by asking them if they have the same reasons or not ? / do you agree or disagree?

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

a prediction question (Look at the photos and the headline of the article on p11. What do you think the article is about?) Then i will ask them to share their answers and see if they have the same answer or not. Following that a pre teaching vocabulary( i will hand them some definitions asking them to match them with the right words in the text) After that students will check their answers in pairs then i will provide them with answer key sheet.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1) Reading for gist: i will ask them to skim (read quickly) and answer questions in page 11 ex 4 c. then i will ask them to check their answers in pairs and after that i will provide them with AK sheet. 2) Reading for specific information: students will read again then answer questions 1 - 3 alone then check their answer in pairs - AK.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Reading for details: i will ask students to read slowly and answer the questions 4-7 alone then check in pairs after that i will provide them with AK.

Post-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Follow-up task (speaking): i will divide students into 3 groups and ask them to sit down in circles. i will provide each group with some questions for example questions A/B/C each group will discuss their questions for 4 mins After that i will ask them to switch so they discuss questions b and so on till each group discuss questions a/b/c. After that i will give content and language feedback
