Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. In pairs, name three British cars. 2. Which one is more popular in China? 3. Have you ever been in one?

Pre-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. Read for gist and figure out the general idea of the text. 2. In pairs, write the past tense of the following verbs. 3. Share your answers with the teacher. 4. On your own, find the meanings of the following phrasal verbs. 5. Compare your answers with your partner. 6. Share your answers with your teacher.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Read the extract from the text without adding definite articles. 2. Go back to the text and read the similar part. 3. Get back to the extract and being to complete it. 4. Compare your answers with a partner. 5. Check your answers with the teacher.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (15-18 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. Read the answers and the question words in the comprehension questions part. 2. Get back to the text and underline sentences that can help you build your questions. 3. Get back to the comprehension questions and begin building your questions. 4. Compare your answers and fix your mistakes with a partner. 5. Share your answers with your teacher.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Open discussion between the teacher and students on the topic.
