Subsidiary Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher draws a picture of a woman and a man and asks the sts to name them. The teacher then tell them the woman lives in Tokyo while the man lives in Artvin. The teacher then guides the sts to describe these cities by asking such questions as "Is Tokyo a big city?, Is there a cheap restaurant in Artvin?" and write the adjectives on the board.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The teacher then hands out the dialogue page in the grammar task of the CB and asks the sts to find five missingexamples of 'there.' The teacher then plays the first listening task and pairs the sts to make them check their answers.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

The teacher asks the sts what they need when they go on a vacation in a different country. After eliciting such vocabularies as a passport, money or a map, working with their partners, the teacher asks the sts to stand up and move around the classroom to look at the pictures of five things we need hanging on the wall and write their names on a paper. The teacher then elicitthe words and adds the missing ones if there is any.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

The teacher then asks the sts to listen to the dialogues of the following task and wants them to match the pictures with the numbers of the dialogues. After the listening task, the teacher wants the sts to check their answers with their partners.

Semi-controlled practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with semi-free practice of the target language

The sts gives clear instructions about the game of the speaking task. The teacher writes the rules on the wb and separates the sts into three or four groups. The teacher gives them about ten minutes to play the game and during this while the teacher monitors them and takes notes about the mistakes the sts make. Before finishing the lesson, the teacher writes some of the mistakes she hears and correct them by eliciting the answers from the sts.
