Description

In this lesson, students are familiar with words and phrases related to airports. They read about some top airports in the world and the facilities they provide for passengers.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about reading in the context of top airports in the world.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a roll-play in the context of plans (when the flight is delayed)
  • To provide review, practice and clarification of vocabulary related to airports in the context of the top airports

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher asks about: Have you ever traveled by airplane? Where do you think is the best airport in the world?

Pre-Reading (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher shows the pictures to the students. And she helps them to guess words. The teacher covers the meaning of new words.

Pre-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students look at some photos of airports and discuss the names of the airports. The teacher helps them to guess about airport facilities.

While-Reading (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students read the text quickly. Then they look at the photos and, according to their understanding of the text, they guess the name of each airport.

While-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The Students read the article again to answer more detailed questions. they match the correct facilities with the correct airport individually first , then They check their answer with the whole class. page 21 part B.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher asks the students to do a Role-play on page 21 part D. Students imagine that they are at the airport and their flight is delayed. Students do role-plays about the things they are going to do at the airport.
