Description

In this lesson, students will learn about vocabularies related to sleeping. The lesson starts with a discussion about sleepless nights. This is followed by the first test where students test their own knowledge then the clarification stage. Finally, there is a controlled practice and freer practice via some discussion questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of discussion questions related to sleeping

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i will start the lesson by asking students to be in small groups and have a discussion on the following questions: 1) How many hours of sleeping do you generally need per night? 2) What keeps you awake at night? (e.g. worrying too much about stuff, too much coffee, your partner's snoring, your neighbors' parties, an uncomfortable bed, a hot summer) 3) Do you have sleeping troubles?

Test #1 (4-5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The T gives to each learner a hand out. They will match the words with its meaning on the hand out. ICQs: Teacher gives one example. Are you working alone or together? Alone. How many minutes do you have 2 minutes. The gives them a few minutes to match and then the learners do peer checking. Then the T gives the FB.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I will clarify the meaning through pictures, definitions and examples. Following that CCQs to check their comprehension. Then I will highlight the pronunciation and stress. After that, I will highlight the form on the board using color coding.

Test #2 (3-5 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

- T gives them HO. - Ss will replace the phrases in bold with the correct form of these phrases. - ICQs: Are you going to replace the phrases? Yes. Are you working alone? Alone. How many minutes do you have? 3 minutes. T demo the first one with Ss Then peer check. Give whole class feed back.

Free practice (10-0 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students work in groups of 3. They have some cards with a question on each card. They get a card in turn and ask the question. T Monitors and provide help when needed and take notes for delayed correction.

Feedback (10 minutes)

T provides students with content feedback to make task purposeful. T provides language feedback to teach them through their mistakes.
