Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of types of film in the context of speaking about different types of film.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about ''James Bond'' in the context of news article.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson by showing Ss pictures of different Egyptian yet famous movies that they are know and elicit the names of movies from them as well as ask them ''what type of movie is that?'' this is an introduction to the topic and a test to their knowledge for the PTV as well as minimizing my TTT.

Pre-teaching Vocabulary (6-8 minutes) • To introduce the important vocabulary.

I will distribute the 1st HO for the PTV which is a matching exercise whereas the words and pictures are randomly illustrated on the paper for them to re-arrange it accordingly and individually, then I will let them check their answers in pairs before I give them the 2nd HO which is the AK and give time for them to check their answers.

Reading for gist/ reading for specific info (8-9 minutes) • To enhance their reading skills.

3rd HO which is the reading text of a news article about ''James Bond'' while giving them a question to tackle their ability to read for gist while other questions selected from ex. 3c will be asked to each pair of Ss to come up with the answers together. Finally, check answers together (No AK shall be provided).

Useful Language (5-6 minutes) • To expose students to useful language that they should use in the context of the lesson,

Introduce Ss to language/ phrases used to agree/ disagree: Agreeing. That's right! Absolutely! Exactly! Me too! Yes, I agree! ... Disagreeing. I don't agree! I totally disagree! Absolutely not! That's not right! ... Partly agreeing. I agree up to a point, but ... I see your point, but ... That's partly true, but ... I'm not so sure about that. All will be distributed on the WB for them to model later on using it or taking notes after me instead of writing them on the PPP.

Free practice (15-16 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Distribute the class into 6 groups (horror, drama, cartoon, romance, comedy and thriller) and ask each group to speak about their all-time favorite movie in each type, I will shuffle the seats then start monitoring and ask Ss to take notes to prepare them for the presentation later on while taking notes for any error correction needed ( I will demo if necessary) using the useful language that we tackled earlier in the lesson and provide CO feedback.
