In this lesson sts will watch a thrailler about The return of Martin Guerre and the story is about Martin Guerre and there is a truth about him so sts will guess what is the truth about him. Then, sts will learn some lexis from the text.e.g pretended, deserved etc.. sts will read the text again in details to put the paragraphs in order and after that, they will match the sentences with phrases. finally in groups sts will discuss if Bertrande (his wife) has believed that Arnaud was her husband and why. if still there is time, sts will practice speaking more about

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about The return of Martin Guerre in the context of mysteries stories.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of Mysteries stories

Procedure

Lead in / warm up (5-6 minutes) • to prepare sts for the reading task will show a poster of the return of Martin Guerre and then will show the trailler about the film.

In order to engage sts with the text, I will show the poster and introduce the characters in the movie. Then I will show the trailler and ask them to guess and find out what is the truth about him.

pre teach vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • to make clear understanding of the story some important words will be given.

I will elicit the meaning of the words from sts first if they cant guess the meaning I will explain it if it is not clear will give an example each.

Reading for scanning (8-10 minutes) • Sts will read the text to put the paragraphs in order to learn more about the text.

first sts will read the text through and then they will try to think what happened first and after in the story to put the paragraphs in order, after that peer check in pairs. FB will be given on the WB.

Reading for details (8-10 minutes) • To read the story again in order to complete sentences with the phrases.

Sts will read the story again to complete the sentences with the phrases are given. By doing this, sts will be able to understand and summarize the story efficiently. peer check in pairs. FB will be given on the WB.

speaking activity (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice accuracy speaking activity in target language.

sts will have a HO which shows a picture of Arnaud and will discuss the question in small groups. Could Bertrande really have believed that Armaud was her husband? FB will be given WC by elicit from sts some responses if they guess what was the truth about Martin Guerre? then will ask them the discussion questions to ensure that WC understand the text. Do you think he was wrong to pretend to be someone else? or Why do you think he did? Error correction will be on the spot while they are discussing.
