Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Holiday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher enters the class talking about her last weekend and the things that happened to her. She uses some simple sentences about the past just to let the students get familiar with the context of the lesson.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher asks the students about the things they did last weekend. The students would probably not use the past simple tense and the teacher would not react at that moment.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher writes 1 or 2 of the sentences that the students made in the correct form to help them notice the target language that is past simple tense. The sentences are simple and short so that it is easier for the students to understand the main point of the lesson.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher works on the form, meaning and pronunciation of the grammar points with the help of the students. The structure and the meaning are elicited and the pronunciation is practiced with drilling.

Controlled Practice (13-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students will answer the questions given in the grammar bank at the end of the book. They have 4 minutes for each part. They do the exercises individually and then they will check their answers in pairs. After they are done, the answers will be checked with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students will be divided in groups of 3 and they will talk about their best holiday ever. The teacher is going to monitor them and feedback will be given at the end of the class if needed.
