Description

In this lesson, the learners will learn to make and use "Passive Voice". To set the context, a few pictures will be used to activate their previous knowledge since they had a text on "La Reforestation". The pre-selected grammar item is first presented to the learners, by means of a text on " la reforestation" with phrases in passive voice. A few questions will be asked which will help the teacher to have a smooth transition to the grammar section. the grammar section will be taught using a learner-centered method in which they will play an active role in learning the grammatical structure. Its rules of form and use are either explained or elicited from the learners. With an emphasis on accuracy a few exercises will follow the lesson after which responses will be verified by the teacher. Teacher control is gradually relinquished, and a speaking task is set up to encourage free production of the grammar item in context. the learners will be asked to find another eco-friendy project and to talk about it_ 5 sentences in "passive voice" must be used in their speech.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the first slide of the PowerPoint file and ask them to try to remember "la reforestation" and clarify it. then ask : A voter avis, c'est une bonne idée d'avoir des enterprises dans chaque pays pour la reforestation? and elicit their answers

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

show the second slide and ask them 1. alors, quelle entreprise en France propose au public de participer a la platation d'arbres? 2. qui est employée par Reforest'Action ? 3. quel porcentage du territoire francais est occupé par des forêts? elicit the answers

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

show slide three and ask 1. Quel est le sujet du verbe en gras dans chacune des phrases? 2. Quel sujet fait l’action dans chacune des phrases? 3. Ces phrases sont a la forme active ou passive?

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

show slide 4 and ask a volunteer to reed the 'emploi' section and explain it in his/her own words. elicit and clarify the passive voice's rules and use. show slide 5 and clarify that the verb 'etre' must be conjugated in different time tenses in the passive voice .

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

do the exercises on slides 6-10 and verify the responses

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

show slide 11 and ask the learners to find another eco-friendy project and prepare a speech about it . they also need to use at least 5 passive structures in their speech. also, remind them to do pages 115 and 116 of the workbook.
