Description

In this lesson, Ss learn to differentiate between the present simple and present continuous through two tourists who visit London.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the present simple and present continuous in the context of a conversation of two tourists visiting London.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about a conversation between two tourists in London checking their map in the context of attraction places in London.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write ''London'' on the PPP and elicit the pronunciation. Give them a time to think of the 2 pictures on the PPP and use their phones to google the answers, then ask them to imagine that they are in London and tell their partner which place would they rather visit and why? OCF

Pre-teaching Vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To find out the meaning of the tourist attraction sites in London.

Give each pair cuts of paper with the place and its meaning while showing the pics on the slideshow then ask them to guess the place and meaning to the picture infront of them.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Tell Ss that we have a dialogue between two tourists, let them read Exercise 1 b, then ask them to listen to fill the gaps. Demo the 1st one with them and pause after each verb to give Ss time to read and answer. Lastly, get the Ss to number the pictures in the correct order.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Write two marker sentences on the board from the text and ask them what the differences are between them. Clarify the meaning using a timetable to facilitate the learning process and use CCQs to check understanding of meaning then constant drilling of the sentences.

Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

P. 133 Ex. 6D b. Ask Ss to fill the gap according to what they've learned from the lesson today individually then compare their answers in pairs (this time, pairs will be shuffled) and answer key will be illustrated on the PPP to check their answers.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask students to sit in groups and tell them to answer the questionnaire in P. 71 using the target language, their purpose should be to answer questions for tourists to see in a mission to convince tourists to come to Egypt. monitor while taking notes for correction and content feedback by the end of the class.
