Description

In this lesson, students learn to identify and say different types of toys through the PPP teaching method.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students Will sing and follow the steps of The action song for kids presented by The singing Walrus, projected in the white board through a PC connected to an OHP.

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher wears a birthday hat and a mask. She brings a big box which contains many coloured presents.She tells them that she recieves these presents in her birthday. She asks the students to identify the different colours in order to revise a previous knowledge. Then, she involves them to open the presents . They discover that it contains toys. She elicits the main word : "Toys" and write it in the white board.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher drills the target language , item by item, using the real toys and the flashcards which contains pictures of toys. The students repeat every word in groups and individually. The teacher fix the flash cards in the board and write the target language under ( a doll - a kite - a teddy bear...)

Clarification (3-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher chests the worksheet 1 . It contains 9 pictures of toys. she gives the instruction clearly : She will drill the target language, shows the toy or the flashcard, Students repeat and write each toy by matching the points. She gives the worksheet to her students and they works together. She elicits the target language by asking the question " What is this? / "what are these ? " , the students will answer "This is .... ", "These are.... " . The teacher prompts when necessary.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The tearcher chests the worksheet n°2 which contains 10 pictures of toys and 10 words. She explains that they should join the picture to the appropriate word. She checks the undrestanding by asking CCQs " Are you going to write the word under the picture ? " "Are you going to match ?" Then, she gives the worksheet to the students. She models the first example. She asks them to do the task in pairs in 1 minute. She monitors in order to give feedbacks later. Finally they correct together. The teacher gives feedbacks and praises her students.

Semi-Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The teacher chest the worksheet n°3 : She explains the 2nd exercise : the students will play a game : they should find the maximum of toys' names in 1 minute . The student who finds at least 5 toys will get an encouragement stamp on her paper. The teacher models an example. She monitors while they are working individually. She asks them to check in pairs before the correction. She gives feedbacks and praises her students.

Free Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will play a game : The teacher divides them in 2 groups of 4 students . She asks each time one student of each group to come to her to see a picture of a toy and mimes it to her group. The 2nd student should guess the word and write it in the board . The fastest student who say it and write correctly gets one mark. Each member of the group who have more marks wins a smiley face.
