Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to write a postcard. They will start with reading a structured postcard and understand the text through filling in some gaps and visuals. Then they will learn some useful language. At last, they will practice writing their own postcards.

Main Aims

  • To provide writing practice of a postcard telling about the student's holidaye

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with a structured postcard that helps them write their own later, and to teach them how to use the useful language.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1 Greet the ss with a smile to everyone to strengthen the rapport with them. 2 Show ss a photo of mine during my last holiday. 3- I will tell them about my last holiday in KSA, and add some sentences to describe it. 4- Ask them where to and when they went on their last holiday so that you make sure they understand the term 'holiday'. (3 minutes) 5- Monitor and feedback.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I- I will clarify some vocabulary that may block the learners' understanding in the coming task, such as Postcard, castle, and square. I will use visuals, definitions, and CCQs in this stage. 2. Tell the learners they are going to work alone and read the postcard in Ex a and then try to fill in the gaps using the correct tenses of the verbs in the brackets. (5 minutes) 3. Hand in the Ex a. 4. Demo the first one with them. 5. Tell Ss to check their answers with their partners next to them 3- Monitor and give feedback.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1 - Use EX a to lead learners to discover the genre features first. 2 - Draw Ss attention to some of the language features used in writing a postcard if they will not manage to discover the genre features by introducing what set phrases, allowed contractions, and informal vocabulary as in the sample postcard of the HO.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Tell Ss that they are going to write a postcard to one of their friends in this class about their last holiday. (15 minutes ) - Do a demo with Ss. - I will monitor and give immediate help to them when needed - Ss will post (give) it to their friends! And let them read to see if there are any similarities and try to correct the mistakes if found. (3 minutes).

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- Give content and language feedback on students' production and use of language. - Do some error correction on board.
