Description

In this lesson, the student will learn how to introduce himself, talk about his likes and dislikes and give details and reasons for his answers. This lesson wil prepare the student for part 1 of the IELTS speaking test.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Interview in the context of Self-introduction, likes and dilikes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide pronunciation review and practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The student is given a brief introduction on the speaking exam of IELTS and is given the chance to introduce himself to the teacher as if the teacher were the IELTS examiner.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

The student watches a YouTube video of a sample speaking test of IELTS and discuss the different aspects of the test.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The student and the teacher discuss the vocabulary, grammar structure (tenses and conjunctions in particular), pronunciation and language chunks related to the speaking test.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The student engages in a series of simulated IELTS speaking test part 1 with the teacher and answers the questions from the list that the teacher holds.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher, having taken notes on the student's performance, provides him with feedback on his choice of vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar.
