Description

In this lesson , students learn about the negatives of technology through a reading text.The lesson starts with an activity related to technology and its various benefits then students are exposed to PTV then they read for gist and for specific details matching the headings with the paragraphs. Teacher writes the useful language. Then, students practice speaking in groups during follow up activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Machines behaving badly, positives and negatives of technologyy in the context of Wasting time, anti social, technical problems

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation through groups and different interactive patterns in the context of Technology and its positives and negatives

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. I activate the schemata by asking them some questions about the animated picture I provide them with. 2. I let them talk in pairs about the different devices they have at home and their uses.

Pre-Reading/Listening (previewing) (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. This stage is Flexi. I put some pictures related to the disadvantages of technology and some problems people may confront 2. Let them work in pairs. 3. Ask every partner about his friend's problems he may face.

While-Reading, 1st stage. Read for gist (skimming) (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Students read the headings and underline the key words. 2. Students read the text quickly just for the main ideas. 3. Let students work individually to match the headings with the paragraphs 4. Let them check their answers in pairs. 5. I put the key answers on the board.

While-Reading 2nd stage, read for specific information( scanning) (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

1. Let students read the Wh questions and search for the information in the passages individually. 2. the check their answers in pairs. 3. Then they check their answers from the key answers.

Post-Reading (Follow up activity) (4-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. Individually make a list of seven reasons make you love technology. 2. In pairs , let them discuss their reasons 3. Make content and linguistic feedback
