In this lesson, sts will practice listening skill and they will learn what people complain about. while thay are listening they will be familiar with TL and they will perform speaking activity that requires using the pictures in order to talk an event and make some sentences about complaint.

Main Aims

  • To provide sts the opportunity to practice listening skill for gist and target language

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide an opportunity for sts to practice fluency speaking skill using target language.


lead in / warm up (5-6 minutes) • To prepare sts for the listening and to set the context.

Asking some questions if sts have a mobile? if so, how often they use it? what they use it for? do they find annoying when people have conversations on their mobile in public places? or Can you live without your phone a week/ a months? Give an example.

listening for gist (7-8 minutes) • To give sts practice listening in order to find out who is speaking in the conversations and about what.

Sts are divided into 3 groups and introduce the characters that they are going to hear about. after that, first group will listen to the conversation in group while the other groups are doing speaking activity outside of the CR in order to predict what they are going to listen about. each group in turns will listen to the conversations and decide who is speaking and who is saying the sentence. when they hear the name they will put initials for each sentence.

peer-check/WC check (7-10 minutes) • to let sts check their answers and give FB.

after listening part sts peer check their conversation. after that they will discuss and check WC If sts need to listen again to check their answers, the recor will be played once again. FB: sts are given answers on the WB.

speaking activity (15-18 minutes) • to give sts controlled speaking activity

i will demonstrate instructions. each group get a different picture to practice speaking. There are four different pictures in each HO e.g a broken sunglasses. sts will talk about pictures to make a complaint. one sts in each group can take notes. ICQ is to check if sts understood accuracy is important in this activity. MFB: error correction will be given immediately. finally sts will talk about their own pictures to WC. then WC error correction.
